Vircue is a menu-bar window manager for macOS: save arrangements as layouts, restore them with a click or a hotkey, and jump between Spaces with the same layout remembering which apps live where. This is the first public beta — signed by an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, and it auto-updates from inside the app as new betas ship.

What’s in the beta

• Layouts — save and restore your windows across displays. Multi-monitor variants stored per setup (docked / undocked live side by side).
• Multi-Space layouts — capture different apps on different Desktops; restore hops to each Desktop and positions them there.
• Auto-Arrange — app-aware tiling on the focused screen (⌃⌥A); press again to cycle through primary-left / primary-right / even-grid.
• Picture-in-Picture — mirror any window into a floating corner (⌃⌥P).
• Scheduling — open layouts, apps, or websites on a schedule.
• Global hotkeys — ⌃⌥1–9 for layouts, plus PIP / Auto-Arrange / Minimize.
• Free plan: 3 layouts, manual switching, minimize-Space. Pro trial: 14 days of full Pro on first launch.

Honest limits

A few things are worth knowing up front — they aren’t bugs, they’re constraints macOS places on any window-management app:

• Windows can’t move between Spaces. macOS blocks apps from moving another app’s existing window across Desktops. Vircue works around this by opening a new window on the target Desktop for multi-window apps (Safari, Finder, Notes). Single-window apps (Reminders, Calendar, System Settings) report “On another Space” with click-to-jump.
• Multi-Space navigation needs Switch-to-Desktop shortcuts. For deterministic Desktop jumping, Vircue synthesizes ⌃N. Apple ships those keyboard shortcuts turned off; Vircue’s Settings screen can enable them for you with one click.
• Keeping a Picture-in-Picture live across Spaces costs something. macOS stops drawing a window once it’s on another Desktop, so a plain mirror freezes. Vircue offers two ways around it, and asks once per app: reopen a Chrome/Electron app with background rendering enabled (it stays put, but is relaunched), or move the window onto a hidden display Vircue creates (nothing is relaunched, but the window leaves its Desktop until you close the PIP). Videos skip all of this — Vircue pops the app’s own native player, which never stops playing.
• DRM video may render black on the hidden display. Netflix and Disney+ are exactly the cases Vircue already routes through native video PiP instead, so in practice you won’t hit it.

Privacy

No accounts and no analytics. Layouts and preferences live in a config file in your home folder and are never uploaded. Beta access uses a key you redeem here, which sets a cookie so the download works for 30 days. See the privacy policy for detail.

Reporting bugs

Menu-bar icon → Settings → Send Feedback… composes a pre-filled email to support@vircue.app. Include what you were doing and what happened. If Vircue crashed, macOS keeps a report at ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Vircue….ips — attach the most recent one.
